On the ninth night of the first lunar month, the entire temple has been in a state of cessation for more than twenty minutes. I was sitting cross-legged in a bed wrapped in a quilt. The dog's barking broke the tranquility. The dog was on the floor where we rested, and the barking continued intermittently. I was reluctant to get out of bed to see what happened, and I also found a good reason for myself: I was meditating, and there were people who were resting later than me, so it was them who should get up to see the situation. I continued to sit in meditation, of course I was not so at ease. A few minutes passed, and the dog's barking continued, "It seems that no one has come up to see the situation." I thought so and decided to start.
After getting out of bed, I walked to the door of the dormitory and found light outside through the gap. I was surprised that someone had already gotten up, but I didn't notice it. When I opened the door of the dormitory, I saw my master walking here with a flashlight. My eyes were filled with surprise, touching and pride. What was surprised and moved was that my master was so old that even our young disciples didn't get up to see the situation, but he got up, and his movements were so light that I didn't notice them; what was proud was that my "righteous act" was seen by my master (this shows my emotional humility and my personality).
The master naturally understood my gaze, "I heard someone knocking on the door, and I got up and saw if it was not." The master smiled and said, "It's okay, be good, go to bed quickly!" The master's eyes and tone were filled with the kindness that could completely melt the ice. I closed the door and went to bed.
I remember that there were several times before, the temple’s dog had not come back after the cessation, and the master went to find it in person with a flashlight. And we are often resting, and the master is still checking whether the light is closed, whether the door is locked, and whether the child has covered it with a quilt. My heart was filled with emotion and strength. Next time I encounter a similar situation, I will definitely be able to put aside the warmth of the bed and get up as soon as possible.
