On February 16, 2025, the "Zhijiang Ask the Way" Pumen Lecture Hall of Putuo Mountain Buddhist Association was held at Baotuo Lecture Temple in Putuo Mountain. Master Hongwei, deputy director of the Dharma Propaganda Office of Putuo Mountain Buddhist Association, head of Xilei Zen Temple (Xuejietang), and editor-in-chief of "Puto Mountain Buddhism", taught "Attack on the Buddha". Master Zhizong, Vice President and Secretary-General of Putuo Mountain Buddhist Association, and more than 300 monks from all temples (units) in Putuo Mountain and the rejoicing guardians attended the Dharma Assembly.

Master Hongwei used the story of the Buddha when he was not yet a monk in the "Fourth Part Vinaya" to explain to everyone the background and cause and condition of his becoming a monk. The Master said that before the Buddha became a monk, he was a prince. Because he saw the suffering of old age, sickness, and death in the world, he felt touched and wanted to seek the method of liberation, and then he became diligent and realized and practiced perfectly. The Buddha became a monk for the purpose of enlightenment, to become a monk for liberation, and to save sentient beings.

The master pointed out that the important thing about becoming a monk is to be a family of birth and death, to go out of a family of evil views and enter a family of true knowledge, to stop evil and cultivate good and realize the truth, to improve personality, to realize life, and to benefit the public with correct views and actions. Sakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment and understood that he had the original "Buddha nature", guiding sentient beings to practice according to the law, break through ignorance and enlightenment, and enter the Buddha's knowledge and views.

The master briefly explained the level of practice of becoming a Buddha based on the four teachings of "hidden", "comprehensive", "different" and "circular" as the framework. The practice of the Tibetan Buddhism is a gradual process, starting from the basic practice of the external stage, gradually advancing, and finally attaining the holy positions such as Arhats; practitioners of the general teachings need to go through multiple stages such as the Qian and Wisdom and the Nature, until they have eliminated their habits and attained the Buddha's realm; in the 52 levels of the separate teachings, practitioners constantly breaking ignorance in the progression layer by layer; according to the "Lotus Sutra" and "Garland", the perfect teachings briefly understand eight levels, each of which has its own unique key points and meanings of practice, and always implement the true nature of the middle way.

The Master emphasized that the cause of becoming a Buddha is to develop the Bodhicitta and practice the Bodhisattva Path, and encouraged everyone not to forget their original wishes to become monks, strictly observe the precepts, study and practice diligently, and keep moving forward on the road of learning Buddhism, implement the Buddha's teachings in life, implement practice in the present, integrate Buddhism into society, strive to serve the public, and benefit sentient beings.
